A Circle Concept for Lower Lagoon Valley

Purpose:  To develop a sustainable park that preserves and protects the wealth of historic, archeological, and environmental resources of Lagoon Valley and its environs.

By documenting and preserving the past experience of Lagoon Valley native inhabitants and pioneers, especially as those experiences were influenced by the surrounding natural environment, the visitor will gain a greater understanding of the importance of natural resource preservation in the present.  The park will provide a perfect circle between the past, present, and future.

Guidelines:  For a project within the park to be considered it shall meet the following minimum requirements:

1.  Be self-sustaining, low impact, and ecologically responsible.

2.  Not deter from an accurate historic interpretation.

3.  Whenever possible, restore the natural flora and fauna.

Specific Projects:

·         Malaca Village (Recreate tule structures)

·         Peña Adobe Restoration (Furnish house with reproduction furniture for interpretation of 1842 'Los Californio' Period)

·         Peña Adobe Interpretive Center   (Build museum/office/classrooms that look like Peña Adobe after 1880)

·         Lagoon Restoration (Restore lagoon to natural habitat)

·         Environmental Center (Within the proximity of the Lagoon build an environmental center similar to the barn at the Sequoia Park Zoo in Eureka to provide education about the domestic and wild animals of Lagoon Valley.  Construction should be entirely 'green' and self-sustaining.  This is an opportunity for people to make the connection with the 'green' construction of the past with Peña Adobe and the future.  It also allows people to see the benefits of using self-sustaining resources found in their own environment.

·         Solar Farm:  Reflects the past in the design of a 'farm' and reiterates the concept of making use of readily available and self-sustaining resources.

·         Restore Orchards (Organic):  Reflects Vacaville's rich agricultural past and looks to the future by promoting organic farming. Work with Del Berg on his concept of building a replica of Elise Buckingham's home.  This could be funded much like the Greenbelt , where the City owns the land, but private parties farm the land.
